RM Auctions announces further highlights for its Monaco auction, scheduled 9–10 May 2014, during the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique weekend. Rare competition greats list include a 1966 Ferrari Dino 206 S Spider, a 1968 Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/2 Daytona, and a 1989 Aston Martin AMR1 Group C Sports Prototype. Estimated to fetch €1,5 – €2 million ($2 – $2,8 million), 1966 Ferrari Dino 206 S Spider was unveiled in February 1966 and specifically designed to race in the FIA’s two-litre Group 4 class. This Dino 206 S is fitted with a 65-degree, V-6 engine that was conceived by Dino Ferrari himself, and it has enjoyed numerous, highly competitive performances in some of the world’s most important sports car races. Resplendent in Rosso Corsa, the example on offer, chassis 028, was the 17th of 20 chassis built.
1968 Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/2 Daytona, chassis AR 75033 026 is a beautiful example of the legendary sports prototype, as it features the classic 270-brake horsepower, two-litre V-8 engine and was raced in period by Vaccarella, Schultze, and Weber. This car is estimated between €1,1 – €1,35 ($1,53 – $1,88).
Another recent highlight for RM’s upcoming Monaco auction is an extremely rare 1989 Aston Martin AMR1 Group C Sports Prototype, chassis 004. Aston Martin has a rich heritage in sports car racing, and in 1986, it decided to construct a completely new V-8-engined Group C racer. One of only four AMR1s, 004 is likely the most correct example in existence as it retains its original carbon-fibre chassis. Capable of producing 700 brake horsepower, it is one of two “Lightweight” examples driven by David Leslie, Brian Redman, and Michael Roe at Spa, Donington, Nürburgring, and Brand’s Hatch, where it secured 4th overall, proving the car’s competitiveness This exceptional car is estimated at €730,000 – €865,000 ($1 – 1,2 million).
