The wide selection of gems in the vibrant colours of the spring season will be offered at Bonhams Fine Jewellery sale on April 9 in New York. Glowing pink and yellow diamonds are complemented with brilliant emerald and jade greens. Rubies, sapphires and a rainbow of gemstones add to the refreshing palette. Statement pieces with floral motifs, perfect for springtime festivities, can be seen throughout the sale. On-trend coloured diamonds available include a diamond ring centering a round brilliant-cut fancy intense pink diamond (est. $150,000-250,000) and a 3.02 carat natural fancy vivid yellow colour diamond ring (est. $75,000-95,000). An 8.43 carat fancy yellow light diamond is also on offer (est. $60,000-80,000), as is a cushion-cut natural fancy intense yellow diamond, weighing 2.58 carats (est. $50,000-70,000). Additional diamond highlights include an impressive cushion-cut diamond, weighing 17.52 carats (est. $220,000-320,000), and an equally large rectangular-cut diamond, weighing 17.86 carats (est. $150,000-200,000).
Gorgeous greens abound in the sale, such as a fine jadeite jade bracelet designed as a carved hololith bangle (est. $40,000-60,000), while a Dreicer & Co art deco emerald, diamond and platinum bracelet, made circa 1925, is sure to put a spring in anyone’s step (est. $60,000-80,000). Art deco is well represented in the sale, including an art deco classic Kashmir sapphire and diamond brooch (est. $125,000-175,000).
A lovely belle époque diamond longchain comprising 257 collet-set old European-cut diamonds from 1910 evokes springtime romance (est. $40,000-50,000). With an estimated total diamond weight of 53.60 carats, it is a splendid example of the long and fluid chains fashionable at the time, which reflected a new modern attitude. This particular chain was a gift from renowned German novelist Thomas Mann, the recipient of the 1929 Nobel Prize for Literature, to his wife. It has remained within the Mann family ever since.
Extraordinary period and estate jewels spring up throughout the sale, such as a very rare 3.45 oval-cut Kashmir sapphire and diamond ring (est. $80,000-120,000). Additional spring stunners include the auction’s cover lot, a suitably sunny Cartier coral, diamond and enamel brooch, and a charming French gem-set butterfly brooch that will set hearts aflutter.
Bonhams Fine Jewellery sale will take place April 9 in New York. The sale will preview at Bonhams Los Angeles March 21-23, at Bonhams San Francisco March 28-30, and at Bonhams New York April 5-9.
