Steve Wynn really doesn’t know what to do with the money. After acquired $12,8 million Chinese Vases, $33,6 million Jeff Koons’”Tulips” sculpture, this casino magnate splased out $28 million on a sculpture of Popeye. This also Koons’ artwork will be installed in one of Wynn’s casinos at Las Vegas. The 6½-foot tall sculpture of Popeye with the can of spinach is one of three version Koons created. Megadealer Larry Gagosian owns one and hedge funder Steve Cohen owns the other.
The head of contemporary art head at Sotheby’s, Alexander Rotter points out that as Popeye represents beginning and in fact the end of pop art, this statue became special.
