Tom Ford has made his debut line sneakers which will hit the shelves this fall. The line features a choice of seven leather shades and five velvet colors, all with white rubber soles. The firlst line of luxe sneakers will be handmade in Italy by artisan cobblers over the course of a week, who will be taking the time to meticulously stitch, polish and “rest” the shoes for 10 days to prepare for a high quality finish. Then, they’re hand-polished over three days.
According to WWD, the designer avoided making sneakers for a while, but ended up changing his mind.
“I have resisted the tennis shoe,” he recently said, until he found a way to put his own twist on it.
Prices range from $690 for the velvet low-tops up to to $990 for the leather high-tops and will hit Tom Ford’s American boutiques in New York, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago and Dallas as well as the London and Milan stores in Europe.
