The auction house Bonhams is, well preserved Volvo P1800ES Sport Wagon from 1973, with only 13,000 miles (20,921 km), recently sold for a record amount of 92,400 US dollars. The auction was held within the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance in Connecticut, USA. Representatives of Bonhams claim that this is a new record figure when it comes to selling classic Volvo cars. This P1800ES is a lifetime spent in the town of Keene, New Hampshire.
Red car body paint is totally original, just like black leather in the interior, and there is a factory-installed and still functioning air conditioner. Before the start of the auction, it was expected that the car will reach cost in the range of 30,000 to 40,000 US dollars, but at the auction, which included a large number of Volvo dealers, an unnamed foreign bidder, gave to the car more than double than the expected price.
“The car is completely original and well maintained, and that was the main reason for such a high price, because even the best restorer had problems to reach such a high quality of the original building, which already owns this car,” said Eric Minoff, a specialist in the automotive department Bonhams company.
