Pages of the American automotive industry are not as densely written as is the case with those in Europe, and across the pond can be proud of the fact that they were making cars for more than a century. One of the oldest car manufacturers in the United States are “Duesenberg”, “Studebaker”, “Plymouth” and “Pontiac”. Although some of them are not existing any more, none has left a mark as the company “Mercer” which existed very short from 1909 until 1925, and has managed to construct one of the first and most successful racing cars, the legendary Mercer 35R Raceabout.
This car was one of the fastest cars of the early 20th century. It is a two-seater that has a cylinder capacity of 4.8 liters and produces a power of 55 horses. Maximum speed amounted to 93mph. A copy from 1911 is one of the most famous and best preserved existing models of this car. This car was, some 60 years ago, part of a set of a museum, and now it is going to be offered at the auction at which is expected to reach a price between $2.5 Million and $3.5 Million.
