Once again McLaren teamed up with Specialized Bicycle Components to design a limited edition road bicycle which will cost you €20,000 ($27,227). All those who can’t afford the likes of the McLaren P1, can opt for this worthy two-wheeler replacement – S-Works McLaren Tarmac. Using McLaren’s extensive knowledge of the world of carbon and other composite materials, the bike’s frame and fork feature a unique carbon layup resulting in a 9% to 11% weights savings (depending on frame size).
Likewise, the crank’s carbon spider and the handlebar both receive special layups. The McLaren Tarmac also receives special-edition paint, and is painted inside McLaren’s own facility that also finishes the brand’s P1 super car. The bike itself is built-up with a Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 drivetrain and comes with another special edition item, Roval CLX40R carbon tubular wheels.
The Tarmac was even built in the same factory where McLaren makes some of its best work: the Special Operations Center it has in Surrey, UK.
Only 250 are being offered worldwide, including several which will be raced by various Specialized sponsored riders at the upcoming Tour de France. Each bike is equipped with a pair of custom-made S-Works Road Shoes and an S-Works Prevail helmet, both painted to match the frame. Furthermore, every S-Works McLaren Tarmac bike will be built to the individual specifications of the rider based upon the included Body Geometry Fit consultation.
