Rio will play host to the 2016 summer Olympic Games and special for that occasion Omega has released a new, and the first limited edition Speedmaster Mark II. The Speedmaster Mark II Rio 2016 looks pretty much similar to the original model from 1969. It takes the same basic style and the same barrel shaped case, with its mix of brushed and polished finishes, and adds an understated Olympic touch. The dial features the typical tri-compax 3-6-9 lay-out: a 30-minute register at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour register at 6 o’clock and a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock.
The tachymeter print on the inside of the crystal is a bit different color wise, and the sub dials have gold rings.
Just like the Olympic medals, the watch features sub-dial decorated with 18k yellow gold, 925 silver, and bronze, while on the caseback is special Rio 2016 engraving.
This particular model will be limited to 2016 models but has the same (technical) specifications as the regular Speedmaster Mark II reissue.
