During the Bonhams’ auction a Ferrari” 250 GTO “from 1962 was sold for 38.115Million dollars (29 million euros) and thus became the most expensive car ever sold at an auction. Previous record was held by Mercedes-Benz” W196 “Formula one car, which last year reached a figure of 29.65 Million dollars (21 million euros). The Ferrari’s classic, with chassis number 3851, is not the most expensive car in the world ever sold, because last year a Ferrari “250 GTO” from 1963 was sold for a whopping $52 Million in a private sale.
This car is the holy grail of collectibles, considering that only 39 copies was made. What further distinguishes this model is the fact that it is designed as a road and as a race car, and thus represented the culmination of Ferrari’s design and engineering. In September 1962, the car left the factory, and went into the hands of its first owner Joe Sleser, a French driver, who was driving on the Tour de France automobile race and won the silver medal.
After that, the car was sold to Mr. Paolo Colombo, next year, and in 1965 finished in the garage of Fabrizio Violati who drove it until the 2000, when the car was given in the Maranello Rosso Museum.
