Lisa Sanguedolce, owner of custom sweetmaker Le Dolci was on a special mission. She had been hired by one customer to create the most extravagant cupcake possible for his wife’s 40th birthday. The result was a $900 (£540)cupcake, probably the most expensive cupcake ever made that we know of. The cupcake was made with some of the woman’s favourite ingredients, and ended up including $1,000 bottle of champagne – which the client brought in as her pastry chef only needed a couple of tablespoons – plus 21-year-old Courvosier.
Other high-end luxurious ingredients used for the cake are: Kona coffee from Hawaii, Rosewood Estate honey and an essence of Tahitian vanilla beans, 24-karat gold flakes and and some of the finest chocolate on the planet.
Sanguedolce admits “it was a long and stressful process, but it looked great and, apparently, it tasted amazing.
“The cupcake was a one-of-a-kind, one-off recipe specific to the client’s taste.”
The cupcake required the work of two pastry chefs, a cake designer, two days of labour and many hours of consultation and planning.
“Getting it all right, it was kind of nerve-wracking,” Sanguedolce says.
