To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Goldfinger, the first James Bond movie, Christie’s in London is selling off a selection of memorabilia related to the movie in a special online charity auction which began on Monday. The higlight of the auction is definitely Gold Plated Aston Martin DB5, one-third-scale replica of the model. This replica with 24-carat gold-plated detailing, complete with radio-controlled machine guns, bulletproof shield and revolving number plate is expected to sell between £40,000 – 60,000 ($65,000 – 100,000).
The model was actually commissioned by EON Productions, specially for anniversary of the first James Bond movie that the iconic Aston Martin appeared in. It even has the signature of James Bond production designer Sir Ken Adams, the same man largely responsible for designing the modifications to the car.
“This is our very sixties-looking remote control unit. It was designed to look like a 1960s prop because it’s 50 years of ‘Goldfinger’ this year and we very much wanted to keep in keeping with that aesthetically,” said model maker Mitch Barnes.
Also on sale is a unique Goldfinger Seamaster Aqua Terra wristwatch created by Omega for the anniversary of the movie. It is estimated to fetch between £8,000-£12,000 ($13,000-$20,000).
Other lots include a first edition “Goldfinger” book by Ian Fleming (estimate £1,000-£2,000) and an original British cinema poster for Goldfinger (estimate £2,000-£3,000). Proceeds of the sale will benefit the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children in the UK.
