John Walker & Sons, the prestige collection from Johnnie Walker, and Diageo, have announced the launch of the John Walker & Sons Private Collection. A continuation of the fabled Johnnie Walker Directors’ Blends, the Private Collection is a limited yearly release. For this first edition, master blender Jim Beveridge and his team have focused on smoke, layering old and elegant whiskies with feisty Islay spirit to create a complex and balanced blend. This deep amber in colour and deliciously smoky, the premium edition from cult favourite Johnnie Walkeris is a blend of 29 casks selected by Beveridge from his reserves of casks.
Each individually numbered decanter (deep sea, dark blue glass to evoke maritime, peaty smoke) is one of only 8,888 to be released worldwide.
“The 2014 edition is a sophisticated expression of the smoky flavour characteristics from three celebrated whisky regions of Scotland: bold and peaty Islay smoke, fresh maritime Island smoke, and a sweet, subtle Highland smoke,” said Beveridge.
