Hostels are usually associated to modest accommodation. But WellnessHostel 4000, in the glacier village of Saas-Fee in the canton of Valais is so different. Although still offers a normal hostel comforts of dormitories, berth beds and common showers, but with 1,900 m2 of sports & wellness. Nestled in region of one of world’s most expensive ski destinations, this charming hostel with 168 beds, opened at the 5 September 2014, is a fantastic place to stay for budget travellers.
Manager Denise Emmerich said: “We have been open for just over two weeks and have seen a mix of guests through our doors, such as ski teams, older people, as well as groups of young people who are more or less looking for cheap accommodation.
“When you go to a hostel you expect it – how can I say it? – to not be anything like a hotel. But we have fitness and wellness facilities, a swimming pool, as well as a pool table and ping pong table.”
Wellness with Finnish sauna, bio-soft sauna, herbal steam bath, whirlpool, footbath, “navel stone”, hydromassage showers such as “summer rain”, “freezing fog”, “moun- tain stream” and “waterfall”, gorge balcony (outdoors), relaxation room, phone/tablet-free area, tea station 25-metre indoor pool, whirlpool, children’s pool, water slide, outdoor terrace. In the fitness Centre, the emphasis is on strength and en- durance. State-of-the-art Nautilus equipment allows professional and recreational athletes to achieve a di- verse, systematic and consequently efficient training. Rounding off the facilities is an extensive massage programme.
There’s also a restaurant4000 where the motto is laid-back and relaxed: delicious menus, always freshly prepared, can be en- joyed either on the sunny terrace or in the restaurant with its magnificent view of the mountains. Guests can also enjoy bistro4000 – the place to meet up with friends old and new for tempt- ing Alpine tapas, refreshing lassis (fruit/milk drinks) or an aperitif around the cosy open fire.
Three bike routes, hiking and climbing regions as well as guided high-Alpine tours complete the offering. Here you can forget about the hectic pace of everyday life. A holiday destination for all seasons.
