Sharp launched its first ever smartphone, the Sharp Aquos Crystal. Japanese consumer electronics giant has borrowed the “Aquos” name from its popular line of liquid crystal display televisions for this new gadget. Running on Android 4.4 KitKat, the 5-inch, 4.9-ounce Aquos Crystal has a 1280 x 720 touchscreen powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 1.5GB of RAM under the hood, as well as 8GB of storage (which can be expanded up to 128GB with microSD cards).
The phone offers 4G LTE data on Sprint’s network, as well as 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi. All of this is plugged into a 2,048mAh battery that Sharp claims can provide about 13 hours of talk time.
Available in black and white, Sharp Aquos Crystal is available in the U.S. starting October 17th, as a Sprint-exclusive for $239 without a contract, or you can also get it for $149 on Sprint’s Boost or Virgin prepaid brands. Unfortunately, Sharp is keeping it zipped on UK and Australia releases.
