Demand and interest in Apple-1 computers is not slowing down, specialy for those linked with Steve Jobs. Few weeks ago the 38-year old working Apple-1 computer (one of 50 hand-built for the ByteShop by Steve Wozniak in the summer of 1976) sold for $905,000 at the History of Science auction at Bonhams New York. One more example, also from Steve Jobs’ garage will hit the auction block at Christie’s in New York City on Dec. 11. A vintage Apple-1 personal computer is the only known surviving Apple-1 computer to have been sold directly by Steve Jobs out of his parents’ garage. A fully operational Apple computer is expected to fetch more than half a million dollars when go under the hammer.
The device was originally the property of Charles Rickett, who wrote a check to Apple for $600 (that will be included with the sale), along with the words “Purchased 1976 from Steve Jobs in his parents’ garage in Los Altos.”
The auction will also include Apple co-founder Ron Wayne’s archive, which consists of items like original working proofs of the Apple-1 Operation Manual and diagrams for a proposed Apple II personal computer.
