A million dollars for VW Beetle is the amount that the Arab sheik is ready to serve to Uruguayan President José Mujica in exchange for his blue Beetle from 1987. According to the local weekly, the offer is presented at the G7 + China Summit, which was held earlier this year in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. This is not the first time someone shows interest about the car of, “the humblest president in the world.” “They gave me an offer” said 79-year-old Mujica. “I was a little surprised. At first I did not consider some special attention, but later came another offer, and I started thinking about it seriously,” he explained, adding that all the money will be used within government program, for the construction of housing for the poor.
President Mujica is known for his modest lifestyle. From his salary, which amounts to $12,500, $1,250 keeps for himself, and the rest gives to charity, earning him the nickname “the poorest president in the world.”
During his meeting with diplomatic representatives in Montevideo, last September, the Mexican ambassador Felipe Enriquez, for the Beetle offered 10-terrain vehicles.
