The Wagington – the first luxury pet hotel and resort in Singapore, opened its doors on Tuesday, hoping to welcome the furry friends of the country’s wealthy residents. The 4,317-square-foot lodging, housed in a converted 1920s, pre- war bungalow, is located on Loewen Road in the upmarket embassy district. It boasts 27 air-conditioned “suites” of various sizes, ranging from the 96 sq ft Royal Suite with crystal chandelier, which can house up to 5 to 7 small dogs depending on size, to the over 15 sq ft Junior Suites for smaller canines. It can cater to a maximum of about 40 dogs (daycare and residence) and 12 cats.
Pampered pooches will enjoy in soft faux leather orthopedic beds and blankets, all of which are imported from the United States.
There is a spa offering facials, massages, mud packs, fur dyeing, teeth cleaning, ‘pawdicures’ and even a gym for active pets to let off steam.
There is a 32-inch TV that plays canine-themed films, and pool where the residents can swim under supervision. Pets can also romp around the Doghill Garden, which is laid out in hypoallergenic artificial turf.
Owner Estelle Taylor invested $700,000 in the business. “We decided on the idea of a luxury pet hotel because there are no truly upmarket lodgings for pets. Being animal lovers, we feel strongly that there should be a place where pets can be left that makes them feel at home,” she said.
Depending on the room type and size of the dogs, rates begin at $115 per dog a night for a Junior Suite to $350 a dog a night for the Royal Suite.
