Chris Whittle, an educational entrepreneur and the co-founder and CEO of the Avenue School, has listed his 11-acre Hamptons estate for a whopping $140 million, making it the most expensive listing in the Hamptons. Called Briar Patch, the property includes 1,156 feet of water frontage on Georgica Pond and is part of a historic district recognized by the National Register of Historic Places. The property includes a 10,000-square-foot main-house as well as a guest home. The main home was originally built in 1931; star architect Peter Marino spent two-and-a-half years renovating it.
Now, it boasts a two story living room, dining room, library, den, two kitchen areas and five fireplaces- along with a home gym. The 3,500-square-foot guest house has its own private drive, and features four bedrooms. The estate also boasts a pool, tennis court and old trees that lead down to the water’s edge.
Most recently, the home has been listed on Brown Harris Stevens for rent on a short-term lease for $175,000. Then, the home came with two sailboats, four kayaks and two paddle boards.
