Fundu Lagoon is on Pemba Island, the sister island to Zanzibar lying across the Pemba Channel to the north. This stylish little beach lodge on Pemba Island offers some of the best diving in Zanzibar. The lodge is situated on a remote and beautiful beach on the south western side of the island and is only accessible by boat. Privately owned boutique hotel run with a love for the natural environment that surrounds it. There are 18 rooms, consisting of canvas tents set under makuti (thatch) roofs on wooden decks, all with views over the sea. wo of the eighteen rooms are suites, with their own private chill out deck and plunge pool, and four are superior suites which also have an extensive indoor and outdoor lounge space and mezzanine platform.
The rooms are connected to the main buildings by wooden walkways or paths through indigenous forest. Some rooms are situated along the beachfront and the remaining on the hillside. All have amazing views, especially the ones on the hillside.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the main dining area or at the jetty bar with a three course lunch and dinner, all with a choice of dishes of international standard. There are three bars, one of which is situated a third of the way along a long jetty which stretches way out into the sea.
This place is perfect for the diving and water sports that most guests come here: a seascape of deep inlets, mangrove coasts, coral islands and fringing reefs is a short boat-ride away. Non-divers can enjoy dhow cruises, canoeing safaris, game-fishing, intertidal coast walks or, a PADI course with the resident dive instructors.
The best weather is between December and March and again from July to early November, with the optimum months being July through to September.
