The Berlin-based online art and auction house Auctionata will present outstanding pieces of Asian Art in three livestream auctions ‘Exceptional Snuff Bottles from a Spanish Collection’ and ‘Important Chinese Furniture’ and ‘Important Asian Art’ on December 11 & 12, 2014. Exceptional Snuff Bottles from a Spanish Collection – A very special sphere of collecting in the world of Asian art awaits you – a large selection of artfully crafted and rare snuff bottles from a Spanish private collection. The bottles, which had been used for storing powdered snuff tobacco since the early Qing dynasty, are almost impossible to overstate in their many facetted diversity and display great artistic prowess on a small scale. Clear examples of this come in the shape of a honey-yellow cameo agate snuff bottle in the style of the Suzhou School or a finely crafted realgar overlay glass snuff bottle.
Important Chinese Furniture – This auction features an exquisite collection of rare Ming dynasty furniture, which originate from the private collection of a German diplomat, which was subsequently passed on to his family. It includes an impressive 16th/17th century Zitan altar table QIAOTOUAN with elaborate carvings.A rare Huanhhuali daybed LUOHANCHUANG with original arm- and backrests, decorated with finely carved relief-fields, is one of many highlights, which also includes a 15th century Huanghuali ‘Giant’s Arm Braces’ Table.
Important Asian Art – A highly personal tribute to Asian art of excellent provenance comes in the shape of a unique album with paintings by LI Keran, GUAN Liang and other prominent Chinese painters, which was produced for the well-known illustrator Werner Klemke in East Berlin. This German-Chinese friendship between artists is further enhanced by a convolute of letters, which will also be going under the hammer. The Famille Rose medallion bowl from the Daoguang period (1821-1850) makes for a further extraordinary auction highlight.
