Mel Ott Game Worn New York Giants Jersey will be highlight at Heritage’s highly anticipated New York City Platinum Night Auction. This jersey worn by Hall of Fame slugger Mel Ott during his National League-topping home run season of 1938 is expected to break records when it takes its turn on the block. It was given as a gift to our consignors by the family of the 1938 Giants bat boy, who took the shirt home as a souvenir at the close of the season.
It is arguably the most significant game worn baseball jersey “find” of the past few years, one of just three Ott representations known to exist, and the only one predating his transition from player to manager. Certainly it is the only example that finds the Hall of Fame slugger in his prime. It is estimated to fetch $300,000+
Other notable pieces to be offered at auction include 1954 Mickey Mantle Game Worn New York Yankees Jersey, MEARS A9, estimate ($400,000+); 1921 Babe Ruth Personally Documented Home Run Bat Attributed to Record 59th of the Season, PSA/DNA GU 10, estimate ($500,000+); 1947-48 Babe Ruth Single Signed Baseball, PSA/DNA NM-MT+ 8.5, estimate ($100,000+); The Only Known “Shoeless Joe” Jackson Signed Photograph, PSA/DNA Mint 9, estimate ($100,000+) and 1934 Goudey Baseball High Number Uncut Sheet with Rare Napoleon Lajoie Card, estimate ($75,000+).
