This year Ford Mustang celebrates 50 years of existence. At that time, were created a lot of special copies of this model, and one of the unique prototype is shortened Mustang from 1964. Ford Mustang ‘Shorty’ is a factory prototype made on the basis of pre-serial first-generation Mustang. It was designed by Vince E. Gardner, and a car with only two seats is 40 cm shorter than the original model.
The whole body is made of fiberglass, forward design is modeled on a real Mustang, while the rear is quite different, not only in length but also the concept of design. In the Shorty is built 5.0-liter V8 engine, and is connected to the automatic transmission specially revised for this car.
There is only one such prototype and is therefore a valuable for collectors. An interesting story behind it, even more raises the car’s price. After it was created, one time the car was on a promotional tour, and then at the Ford Museum.
Since the production of this Mustang was not planned, the company wanted to destroy it. But Gardner did not agree with that so he stole a car and hid it in a warehouse. Gardner did not pay rent for warehouse, and when the owner of the warehouse found a car, he called the police. Shorty was then taken over by the insurance company, which later sold it to the current owner. Shorty was fully restored ten years ago, and the following year in March, it will be sold at auction in Ford Lauderdale, Florida. Estimated value is between $400,000 and $600,000.
