Joan Rivers’ lavish penthouse in New York City’s Upper East Side neighborhood was offered for sale in 2009 for $25 million and again in 2012 for $29 million. It went off the market in June 2013, and is now on sale again, this time for $28 million. These were the words the late Joan Rivers used to describe her palatial Upper East Side penthouse: “This is how Marie Antoinette would have lived if she had money.” The apartment at 1 E. 62nd St., where Rivers also served as condo board president spans the top three floors of the building, and features four bedrooms and four and half bathrooms, five fireplaces and multiple entertaining areas with candid and colorful decor as Rivers herself.
The penthouse contains a 23-foot-high ceilings, hardwood flooring and large glass windows and wide doorways. There was a paneled library, a formal dining room, a corner office and terraces that provided beautiful views of the city and Central Park.
The home was originally built in 1903 for a family of Gilded Age millionaires and socialites. It was later converted into condos in the 1930s.
