The highly awaited and extensive art collection of the late acclaimed actress, Lauren Bacall, will go under the hammer at Bonhams’ New York. An intricate collection of jewels, furniture, sculpture, art and other collectables will go on view to the public at Bonhams’ Madison Avenue galleries from 25-30 March inclusive (10.00-17.30) before being auctioned on March 31 and April 1. Distinguished collection featuring more than 740 pieces belonged to the actress, who passed away last summer, a month before her 90th birthday has been offered up by her surviving daughter.
Among her collection are exquisite art works that she sought out; six bronze maquettes by British sculptor Henry Moore for example, as well as contemporary and modern prints by David Hockney, Jim Dine, Richard Avedon and James Aubodon. But these are accompanied by equally valuable keepsakes from friends such as Daffodils by Ted Kennedy and Jamaican Hillside Road by Noel Coward.
Accompanying the sale is the lavishly illustrated auction catalog, a collector’s item in its own right. Numbering more than 374 pages, the catalog includes numerous quotes by the actress, footnotes, vintage photographs and views of various rooms of the legendary Dakota apartment that overlooked Central Park.
Lauren’s collectibles will be showcased in Hong Kong, Los Angeles and Paris before finishing on the auction block at Bonhams in New York.
