The American artist Paul McCarthy has collaborated with the Brussels-based arts organization -The Skateroom, to create a series of skateboard designs for charity. The set of 10 limited edition decks (with an 11th board available when purchasing the entire collection) depicts images from McCarthy’s PROPO series of images – photos taken in 1991 of objects he used in performances between 1972 and 1983.
The Skateroom initiative, based out of Brussels, encourages artists to enrich skate art history by producing bold, exciting works that lend their profits to empowerment organizations; this is one of their largest collaboration to date.
Priced at $30,000 per set, each is limited to an edition of 35, and comes packaged in a custom-made flight case which includes wheels, trucks, bolts and transparent grip-tape.
All proceeds from the organisation’s collaboration with the artist will go towards the international NGO Skateistan, which is constructing a skateboarding and cultural centre for underprivileged children in Johannesburg, South Africa.
