Swedish perfumery Byredo and luxury eyewear brand Oliver Peoples have collaborated to explore the intersection between sight and scent. The result is a limited edition sunglasses and fragrance that effortlessly complement one another. The inspiration came from Los Angeles and the phenomenon of Synesthesia. Founder of Byredo, Ben Gorham explains: “It’s the connection between senses where smell triggers a color or shape…it’s technically classified as a disorder but I’ve only heard of it in immensely creative people, so in my mind it’s a gift.”
Los Angeles’ scenery is incorporated into the scent by perfumer Jerome Epinette. Byredo & Oliver Peoples scent is developed after viewing Los Angeles locations through various colored lenses. It features juniper berries, lemon, orris, patchouli fraction, musks, warm sand accord and helichrysum.
The unisex, acetate sunglasses are available in two frame color ways, Semi Matte Black and Beige Crystal, with three different photochromic lens colors, including Indigo, Champagne and Green.
The fragrance and sunglass will be sold separately, as well as in a bespoke box set with a custom-made case and pouch. Byredo & Oliver Peoples scent will be $175 for 50 ml, and will be available in two bottle colors to match the frame colors. A box set with the glasses will be $530, while a pair of sunglasses will be $450.
