An extensive collection of rare editions and original works by 20th and 21st century masters comes to auction this month on Invaluable. One of the most interesting pieces offered on sale is Jeff Koons’ Balloon Venus for Dom Pérignon. One of the most famous American contemporary artists, Koons created the Balloon Venus for Dom Pérignon in 2013. Inspired by a tiny Palaeolithic figurine discovered in Austria, the Balloon Venus is an adaptation of Jeff Koons’ monumental sculpture and proposes a new kind of idol: a modern day goddess of love who embraces in her reflective curves.
This smaller version of his hot pink chrome sculpture is created to hold a bottle of Dom Pérignon Rosé 2003. Similar to its muse, the Balloon Venus acts as a protector of the bottle of rosé inside.
With only 650 created, the Balloon Venus for Dom Pérignon bottle case is a truly collector’s piece. It will be offered on May 19, 2015 and is estimated to fetch €40,000 – €60,000 ($45,000 – $68,000).
