The Serendipity 3, the New York City restaurant with reputation of creating expensive and extravagant versions of classic American foods such as the famous Frrrozen Hot Chocolate and the world’s most expensive Hot Dog, has now added the new Guinness World Record for the world’s most expensive sandwich.
The Quintessential Grilled Cheese, as the sandwich is otherwise dubbed is made with the finest ingredients such as champagne, lobster and truffle oil, and edged with 24-carat gold border.
Big cheese chef Joe Calderoni spoke about his new creation, saying: “This is the most expensive sandwich in the world. We came up with the idea to create the world’s most expensive sandwich on national sandwich day. We came up with grilled cheese because that’s the ultimate in comfort food. What better way to celebrate that sandwich than with the quintessential version of that sandwich?”
He added: “We source the ingredients by looking for the finest and rarest ingredients in the world. And we try to put them together to create an ultimate experience in dining. The bread is baked with Dom Perignon champagne, some white truffle oil with the gold. Then our grass-fed butter infused with white truffles. Then we take caciocavallo cheese – it’s very rare.”
The Quintessential Grilled Cheese must be ordered at least 48 hours in advance to give chefs a plenty of time to prepare this masterpiece, which will cost you $214.
