Captain Nemo’s six-wheeled Nautilus car which was driven in 2003 by Sean Connery in “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” will be auctioned on July 11. Designed by Carol Spier, this vehicle is one of just two models made for the movie, and is fully functional and features heavily throughout the film and its promotional material. Its twin was rigged with scaffolding for filming the actor’s close-ups.
The car is built on a Land Rover chassis which has been adapted with a steel frame that houses a Rover V8 engine and a hydraulic system for raising and lowering the ride height and is covered with an ivory colour fibreglass shell. The body is adorned with intricate gold-effect detailing, while the interior is trimmed in faux leather.
The car is estimated to fetch between £18,000 and £25,000 ($28,000-$40,000) as part of the Coys Blenheim Palace auction.
