Uber has launched a service called UberBOAT in Istanbul to allow ferries passengers to cross between two continents via Istanbul’s Bosphorus strait. This taxi service is launched in partnership with a local sea transport company Navette-Tezman Holding, that operates speed boats that have a capacity of 7-10 passengers each.
The UberBOAT service will show up on the smartphone app when you are near the coastline. If there’s an empty boat nearby, you simply set your pick-up location and request a boat. Next, you’ll get a call from the boat’s captain to confirm that your ride’s on its way.

Passengers looking to cross the Bosporus strait by UberBOAT will pay between 50 and 435 lira ($18 to $160) depending on distance and time, a big step up from the 2.15 liras someone would pay to board public ferries. Uber, though, promises convenience, speed, and comfort, and reminds users they can split the cost if they’re with others.
