Now, you have a chance to own Maria Callas’ Merceds Limousine. Auction house Artcurial Motorcars is putting up for sale a collection of 11 cars from the estate of a friend of the Callas family, including two limousines that belonged to the famous opera singer herself. First presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1963, the Mercedes 600 aimed to break into the luxury market that was until then dominated by Rolls-Royce and Bentley.
Maria Callas, the world famous Greek American opera diva owned two of these limousines for her personal use to transport her from opera to opera during her European tours. One of these was fitted with a radio in the back, specially for the Diva.
Offered without reserve, these two Mercedes-Benz 600 limos, from 1966 and 1971, are estimated at between €60,000 ($65,335) and €100,000 ($108,900).
The sale will take place in the heart of the Principality, at the Hôtel Hermitage, after being on display on Sunday 19 and Monday 20 July at the Casino de Monte-Carlo.
