The house of 950 square meters, with 18 bedrooms and five bathrooms, belonged to a Russian revolutionary leader Leon Trotsky in Istanbul was put on sale, the Turkish media reported today. Hurriyet newspaper reported that a house on Istanbul’s Buyukada Island in the Sea of Marmara is on sale for $4.4 million.

The three-story building and its garden which occupy an area of 3,600 square meters was built 150 years ago.
“Trotsky lived in that house for four years when his first house, also on the island burned down,” said Mustafa Farsakoglu, a former mayor of Buyukada.
Trotsky (1879-1940) was a Russian revolutionary and politician of Jewish origin who had a prominent role in the October Revolution.
He was expelled from the Soviet Union in 1929 and taken to Turkey where he remained for several years before continuing exile in other countries. He was murdered in 1940 in Mexico City.
