Famed Modigliani Nude which caused a scandal century ago, will now be offered for the first time at auction in New York. This painting by Amedeo Modigliani, created 1917-1918 will be the “star” at Christie’s auction on November 9 where is expected to fetch $100 million. If achieve this amount, this artwork will beat Modigliani record of 71 million dollars, which is given for one’s work.
“Nu Couché” (Reclining Nude) which depicts a woman lying naked on a red coverlet is one of the most famous Modigliani’s paintings and is part of a series of acts painted for his friend and art dealer Leopold Zborowski.
When exposed at Modigliani’s first and only solo exhibition in a Paris gallery, the painting shocked the public.
The act has been exhibited in museums around the world and is part of a private Swiss collection.
Christie’s Nov. 9 sale, which will feature the Modigliani, will also include 25-30 works of art by artists such as Picasso, Giacometti, and Warhol.
