Karl Lagerfeld had unveiled his own premium collection of candles back in 2013. Now, the over-ambitious and highly-energetic designer joined forces with perfumer John-Paul Welton to launch this unusual object whose starting point was, as for any fashion event, a sketch signed by its creator. “Candle Karl” is a nod to Karl Lagerfeld’s quintessential appearance. The candle is adorned with glasses and of course his stylish collar and positioned in a white lacquered glass container, sitting on a biscuit porcelain base.
As a final touch, the hallmark little black button is reproduced here. The best thing about it is after it burns out; you can keep this object to fill the home with Karl’s creative and humorous aura or even put a new candle in it.
Designed by Lagerfeld and Welton, the first three home scents were based on an original combination of fig and pepper, an ode to oud and sandalwood, whereas a fourth drew on woody, amber and spicy essences. For “Candle Karl“, creator and perfumer imagined an oriental spice whose luxurious and elegant characteristics reflect another aspect of Karl Lagerfeld’s personality.
Lagerfeld’s favourite cinnamon makes its appearance in the top notes, surrounded by fresh citrusy combination of mandarin and orange, delicately spiced with pink peppercorn. The heart is composed of floral notes of jasmine and orange blossom, blended with cardamom, nutmeg and tobacco notes that emphasize the character of the scent. The subtle yet powerful base is enhanced by the warmth of amber, purity of the musk and elegance of cedar and teak wood.
Made in France, “Candle Karl” is available in a limited numbered edition.
