Co-owner of the MDM Financial Group and a self made Russian billionaire, Andrey Melnichenko net worth is estimated at $11.4 billion. So, it’s nothing surprising that this 43-years old Russian business tycoon can afford €400 million (£292 million/$450million) yacht. Called the Super Yacht A, it is the world’s largest sailing yacht.
This luxury vessel is expected to boast three masts, all of which stand more than 328ft – taller than Big Ben, with eight decks while its keel includes one of the largest single pieces of curved glass ever made measuring 193 square feet. The boat itself is approximately 468 feet long – roughly the size of a standard American football field – dwarfing everything that surrounds it. There will be room for approximately 54 crewmembers and will also have a high-tech digital control system.
It will be powered by two diesel engines and two electric motors, and while the interior design is being kept under wraps, it is expected to incorporate luxury and technology.
The yacht where Mr Melnichenko will enjoy with his wife – Serbian model Aleksandra, is due to begin its first sea trials later this year. Initially it will be tested with one mast before the others are fixed in place.
