In his 86 year, famous Canadian-born architect Frank Gehry is still making waves. An architect renowned for creating some of the most unique buildings in the world can now add a sailing yacht to his enviable portfolio. Dubbed Foggy, Frank Gehry’s first sailboat design resulted from the collaboration with Argentinian naval architect Germán Frers and developer Richard Cohen.
In 2008, Gehry found himself mulling the idea of designing a boat and mentioned it to Cohen, who was looking to build a large racing yacht. They then brought in Frers who is renowned for having designed some of the most elegant vessels in the world. They designed a racing ready sailing yacht – combination of cold-moulded construction, carbon fibre technology, lots of titanium details and hundreds of individual pieces of glass inserts.
Foggy stole the show at Round the Island Race in Martha’s Vineyard this summer, and next up Gehry and Cohen have plans to take the Foggy for a tour down the East Coast towards Cuba and Panama, and keep it docked at the Marina Del Rey in California where they aim to race the boat on sunday afternoons.
