Un Hada (which means “A Fairy”) is the creation of Jocelyn Prestia, whose underlying belief is that fine jewelry should be a flight into fantasy, making the wearer feel as though a bit of fairy dust has just been sprinkled upon them. This onetime writer – Jocelyn Prestia was named the 2015 JA Mort Abelson New Designer of the Year at the JA New York show. When she began collecting antique jewelry she realized that each piece had its own story, its own history that could carry one off to bygone eras. In 2004, Jocelyn moved to Thailand to study gemology at the GIA’s Bangkok campus in order to better understand and appreciate the antique jewelry she was collecting.

But she soon found that the gemstones themselves told a story, and that the more unique and interesting the stone, the more mysterious yet revealing it could be. Whether it was opals and the exquisite galaxies they seemed to possess within, pearls with their ancient pedigree, Pamir spinel from the mountains of Tajikistan, or color-change garnets with their deceptive hues.
Whilst studying jewelry design in Bangkok, the little fairies started to creep into her mind, and ideas began to jump out onto paper, allowing her to create pieces that not only featured these extraordinary gemstones, but also opened a door to imaginary worlds. Her muses have many faces, such as fairy tales like “The Dark Crystal,” myths and legends, magical kingdoms in Rajasthan, Kurosawa-like trees, glittering temples in Thailand, and, of course, fairies.

From the gemstones, to the choice of colors, to the way the pieces are hand-crafted in 18k gold, to the themes and motifs, and finally to the way all the elements are merged as one in the finished piece, the result is jewelry that has many hidden layers, wearable magic whose charmed and unusual combinations can be worn in everyday life, making the wearer feel as though a bit of fairydust has just been sprinkled upon them.
