BMW Z8, which became famous after Pierce Brosnan as James Bond drove it in “The World Is Not Enough” from 1999, was sold Sunday at an auction in Paris for €280,700. The car has significantly exceeded the initial auction amount and thus set a new record for this model and the new owner is an anonymous collector from Europe.
BMW Z8, which was produced from 2000 to 2003, is the production version of the prototype Z07 from 1997 for which design is credited Henrik Fisker. This car was created as a tribute to the BMW 507 from the 1950’s. Positive responses of the motoring public have contributed that BMW commence series production and and has gained popularity due to appear in the movie in the series of secret agent 007 – “The World Is Not Enough” from 1999.
During the three years of production, from production lines came down around 5,700 copies, and half was exported to the United States.
Below aluminum exterior lies a 4.9-liter V8 engine that develops 400 hp (294 kW) and 500 Nm. The engine, which is the work of experts from the departments of BMW Motorsport, allows Z8 to accelarate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 s.
According to the French press, the auction where Bond’s Z8 was sold was held at the Elysian Fields, and recorded a great success – it sold 80 percent of the offered vehicles, and the total income reached €7.2 million.
Next auction, which will be organized in early February 2016, is announced as “historic”, because includes the Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta from 1963, whose price is estimated at €9-12 million.
