Extremely rare version of Bob Dylan’s album has come up for auction on eBay with a starting price of $100,000. Issued in 1963, the album “The Freewheelin” will enthrone the young Dylan on the music scene. Although the second album of the American singer-songwriter unanimously accepted by critics and audiences, a censored version without four controversial songs appeared on the market.
Record label Columbia Records was then owned by CBS, which insisted that the song “Talkin ‘John Birch Paranoid” be taken off the album. They even prevented the famous musicians to present his satirical track in the then very popular Ed Sullivan show. According to the site Vinylfactory, three more “tricky” songs were removed from the album.
One of the factory for the production of records, however, is not timely informed about this change, and a smaller number of “original” vinyls were recorded. Several mono editions were sold secretly in California, and in 1992, one stereo copy of the album had miraculously appeared in one of the New York record store.
It was bought it that same year for $ 35,000 by certain David Ektra, and he now offers it on online auction with a starting price of $100,000.
