Leica has officially announced their new entry level Leica M Typ 262 digital rangefinder camera. Only in Leica world, its price of $5,195 can be considered cheap. The new M model is basically the “light” or a more affordable version of the current M Typ 240. It’s more or less the same as the M from 2012, with a 24-megapixel full-frame sensor and optical viewfinder that helps you focus manually, but it’s missing a couple of the Typ 240’s features, such as no video, no LiveView, 100g lighter (body made top plate made of durable aluminum), smaller Leica red dot logo, quieter shutter compared to the M 240, the camera’s menu consists only of two pages and body design closer to the M9.
Leica M Typ 262 sells for $5,195 which is a lot of money by any measure, but but it’s certainly less than the $6,950 Typ 240.
