Swiss watchmaker since 1738, Jaquet Droz has perpetuated the spirit of innovation and an esthetic refinement of its founder, Pierre Jaquet Droz. Now, this ultimate brand for the bespoke watch allows you to design the dial of a watch as peryour preference. This announcement was made as a tribute to the tradition maintained by its Ateliers d’Art. Jaquet Droz invites its customers to draft a design for the timepiece they would like to own; while giving them an exclusive chance to explore their expertise and team up with the brand’s artisans.
Before the confirmation, they mention that the brand would need to communicate with the customer a couple of times. This communication would mainly be related to the model that he/she will use for customisation, crafting techniques, etc.
The approximate time for creating the bespoke timepiece would be 2-6 months, depending on the techniques selected for the process. The entire process is dependent on the delicate interaction of the fine coloured powders and the kiln which is used to attain precision.
The splendour of the enamel-painted design stays intact for centuries and cannot be altered once it is finished. The dials are completed with the brand’s centuries-old distinctive signature.
To honour the art of painting in the current century, and sustain the traditions of its founder, the Swiss watchmaker wants to use this technique in customising some of the pieces for this special collection. The complete painting will be done by hand, using a microscope. The approximate time to produce the dial would be at least a week.
Paillonné is a type of enamelling that involves covering small paillons or motifs cut from a gold leaf with translucent enamel. The technique is one of the traditional expertises of the brand.
Pierre Jaquet-Droz, the founder, had transformed it into an art form. With this art form, Jaquet Droz revives an ancestral technique which creates novel and decorative artistic masterpieces. The motifs are moulded and sculpted before they are fitted on the dial. The motifs are handcrafted with the finest details and then painted or sometimes left as it is. These have been the founder’s favourites, and have held a distinct spot in his heart. Accroding to the brand, miserals such as rocks and crystals remind us of the world’s ultimate artist–nature. Jaquet Droz has been capturing the essence of nature by using these stones and minerals to create the base of its one-of-a-kind dials.
