In 2016 New York Botanical Garden celebrates its 125th anniversary. Since 1891 the Garden has been a museum of plants dedicated to achieving excellence in horticulture, education, and plant research and conservation. Today it is one of the great cultural institutions in the world, a preeminent center for botanical research, a natural treasure for visitors of all ages, and a leader and national model for plant-based education.

And there’s no better way to celebrate its 125th anniversary than with Special Holiday Train Show which returns this year with a major 3,000-square-foot expansion for this beloved New York City seasonal tradition. Enchanting model trains zip through a display of 150 landmarks, each re-created with bark, leaves, and other natural materials – all under the twinkling glow of the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory.

Marvel at G-scale locomotives hum along nearly a half-mile of track around replicas of New York landmarks, artistically crafted of natural materials such as bark, twigs, stems, fruits, seeds, and pine cones by designer Paul Busse’s team at Applied Imagination. Grand Central Terminal, Radio City Music Hall, the historic Hudson River Valley houses, Brooklyn Bridge, and Rockefeller Center are among the favorites in the Botanical Garden’s collection of more than 150 Holiday Train Show replicas.

In addition to the enhanced exhibition experience, the Garden grounds transform into a winter wonderland with programming for all ages to enjoy. Opening on Saturday, November 21, 2015, the show runs through Monday, January 18, 2016.
