After factory photos and details about the interior, here are the first official published pictures of new exterior of the fifth generation of the Mercedes E-class. The new E-Class (W213) will be premiered on 11 January at the NAIAS Auto Show in Detroit, while sale is expected in Spring. As was expected, and these official pictures only confirm that new E-Class was inspired by the current Mercedes model, as indeed announced by a number of spy pictures of poorly masked test specimens.
It should be noted that the Mercedes E-Class has reduced drag coefficient from 0.25 in the previous model to 0.23 for the latest generation W213. The new E-Class is built on the Mercedes modular platform MRA, while emphasizing and reduced vehicle weight.
Except as sedan and wagon, the new E-Class will be offered as a coupe and convertible, and will reappear and sports AMG version (E63 AMG).
Mercedes says that in new E-Class offer will be a new 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission, and in addition to the standard rear-wheel drive some versions will get optional drive to all four wheels.
Among other things, the car will have adaptive cruise control, advanced emergency braking assistance, the new Remote Park Pilot, and the new Car-to-X communication (a system that allows the exchange of information with other vehicles on the same route), but it should be noted that the driver’s smartphone power can be used as a digital key for entering into a new class of E.
According to earlier announcements, the new E-Class will also have a semi-autonomous driving function, which works with the help of the system of Distance Pilot and Pilot Steering, along with improved COMAND software.
