Nike just announced the release of the much awaited Air Jordan XXX, celebrating 30 years of Air Jordan shoes. They even held an online streaming event to celebrate the shoes’ unveiling. The Air Jordan XXX is a unique synthesis of Jordan’s evolution as a player and a design collaborator. Each of the shoe’s elements results from a key performance insight or design inspiration fundamental to the player and Jordan Brand’s evolutions.
The silhouette is defined by five main components: height, toe, traction, material and fit. Jordan’s request to designer Tinker Hatfield to “make [the shoe] look fast” is accomplished via a first-of-its-kind knit collar and XXX graphic along the heel and forefoot. A smooth toe piece fashioned by Mark Smith using a new printing technique offers unparalleled breathability.
It features a new traction system and is crafted from a mix of woven, knit and printed materials including a knit cradle that keeps the heel in place and at the same time reduces the amount of glue needed to make the shoe.
True to his role with Air Jordan flagship footwear in recent years, Russell Westbrook will be the face of the newly-introduced Air Jordan XXX. Air Jordan XXX releases on February 12, with Westbrook set to wear the shoe on-court in the coming weeks.
