Amsterdam-based restaurant tycoon Won Yip won the bidding war for the most expensive penthouse in the Netherlands. The 1,400 square meter penthouse makes up the entire top floor of the currently under construction 90-metre tall ‘Pontsteiger’ building, which is due to be finished in 2017. Yip splashed out €16 million on it. For that price he’ll get luxury apartment on the 25th floor of a former timber yard site on the IJ waterfront, eight parking places and two berths for boats.
Besides being the most expensive penthouse ever sold in the Netherlands, it’s also the largest penthouse to be ever built in the country. The record was previously held by the upper floor of De Rotterdam in Rotterdam – 750 square meters sold to American buyers for 3.44 million euros.
Pontsteige skyscraper is the work of Dutch architecture firm Arons en Gelauff. The building has a very interesting shape and has already received its nickname – “New Gates of Amsterdam.” It will have about 300 apartments for rent and 100 apartments for sale, as well as its private marina, with enough space for 45 yachts.
