During the past 85 years, Jaeger-LeCoultre has surprised us with new interpretations and reiterations of the Reverso. At this year’s SIHH 2016, they revealed a stunning beautiful and big, big cinema for the wrist – new Reverso Tribute Gyrotourbillon. This is a limited edition platinum watch that serves the legacy of the Reverso very well while also advancing the brand’s already impressive Gyrotourbillon. houses a 3Hz manually-wound Calibre 179, which is developed and produced in-house.

An all-new tourbillon has been developed for this edition, making it unique. It’s 30% lighter than its predecessor and has an external driving mechanism that has it perform its rotation. An external driving mechanism drives the rotation of the bi-axial flying tourbillon, which makes it more visible to the viewer, both via the front and the back. Pared down to their slimmest possible form, the two carriages of this bi-axial flying tourbillon perform an external rotation in one minute and an internal rotation in 12.6 seconds. A full rotation of the inner carriage of the Gyrotourbillon 2 took 18,75 seconds.

The balance-wheel is non-circular to reduce air friction. It is shaped like the Jaeger-LeCoultre anchor symbol. The Manufacture claims a decisive breakthrough in terms of precision.
On the front there is a white hour and minutes dial on the upper section, joined by blued steel Dauphine hands as found in several iterations of the Reverso. At 11 o’clock, you’ll see the day/night indicator. There’s the blue arrow at the lower lefthand side of the dial, surrounded by the beautiful sunburst guilloché pattern.

It points to the seconds display, which is actually a graduated disc which rotates at the cadence of the Gyrotourbillon.
On the reverse side of the dial, you’ll find the dual time display, looking vastly different from the display at the front of the watch. At 2 o’clock, you’ll see the day/night indicator in a 24-hour mode.
This platinum model is issued in 75 pieces, with a price of $270,000.
