It’s 12 years since Concorde made its last supersonic flight at Mach 2.04 or 1,354mph – but this record can soon be seriously affected. The engineer Charles Bombadier jet has unveiled another radical, much faster design for future air travel. Dubbbed Antipode, this revolutionary vessel is capable of reaching Mach 24 – 12 times faster than Concorde. It can carry 10 people up to 12,430 miles (20,000km) in under an hour, allowing it to travel from New York to London in just 11 minutes.
Other destination? Well, NY to Dubai in 22 minutes, NY to Shangai in 24 minutes and NY to Sydney in 32 minutes!
The Antipode can take off from any airfield thanks to the rocket boosters that are attached to its wings. They can send the jet to a height of 40,000 to reach Mach 5 speeds. The next phase of flight would involve the supersonic combustion engines powering up that send the jet to an incredible Mach 24 speed. Truly impressive!
Charles Bombadier – the Canadian engineer from ImaginActiv captivated the world’s imagination in October when he unveiled his Skreemr concept plane that could reach speeds exceeding Mach 10 – that’s 10 times the speed of sound.
