Triton Submarines, a builder of personal submarines designed for yacht deployment, has launched a new submersible designed to transport passengers deeper than other models in its range. This world’s deepest-diving submersible features capability to transport two people in air-conditioned comfort to 6,600 feet below the ocean’s surface. Florida-based manufacturer unveiled details of its latest all acrylic submersible at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, where CEO L. Bruce Jones said:
“We are excited about this new deep-diving acrylic-hulled sub that will dive twice as deep as our 3300 series submersibles,” Jones said. “Like other Tritons, the transparent pressure hull provides remarkable viewing and the capability of diving over a mile deep adds tremendous versatility.”
The orb-shaped hull enclosing the compartment provides an unobstructed view of the surroundings, and six standard-equipment 20,000-lumen lights illuminate the view. The sub travels at 3 knots, so it takes about an hour to reach its maximum depth, but the lithium-battery bank powering the propulsion system is good for a 10-hour dive, though its life support system will operate for up to 96 hours. The starting price for Triton 6600/2 is $5.5 million.
