Swiss watch manufacture Piaget proudly presented its technical art of watchmaking at the prestigious event – SIHH 2016 in Geneva. For the first time, the brand showcased live moments directly from its brand new booth, including an immersive experience, presentation of new creations and interviews with craftsmen. Piaget used a technique and a combination of wood, mother of pearl diamonds and wood marquetry as well as gold engraving, to create an incredibly complicated and beautiful Yves Piaget roses on dials of its Altiplano ultra thin watches, which are characterized by timeless elegance of simple and clean, but also modern lines and details.
Altiplano 38mm dial in wood marquetry & Altiplano 38mm dial in white mother-of-pearl & wood marquetry models are crafted by the artisan Rose Saneuil. The marquetry technique includes carving out wood so as to inlay it with various materials – in this case, wood fragments and mother-of-pearl. These feminine watches are made of 18-karat white gold, featuring a bezel set with 78 brilliant-cut diamonds (approx. 0.7 ct). The dials are graced with Dial graced with a Yves Piaget rose motif in wood marquetry, and wood and mother-of-pearl marquetry. Both models are powered by the Manufacture Piaget 430P ultra-thin hand-wound movement, with hours and minutes function. Both issued in a limited edition comprising only 18 pieces. Mounted on a white alligator leather strap with 18-karat white gold pin buckle.
Altiplano 38mm engraved gold dial is crafted by the artisan Dick Steenman. The artist used a scriber to outline the petals, and then he sculpted each petal to create a depth effect. Each petal has been worked in conjunction with those around it to as to respect the hierarchy running from interior to exterior. At the end, the engraver sands and smoothens the surface, before accentuating the angles to perfect the sense of depth and volume. Piaget Altiplano 38 mm watch with an engraved gold dial is made of 18K pink gold featuring a bezel set with 78 brilliant-cut diamonds (approx. 0.7 ct). This very special edition is also powered by the same Manufacture Piaget 430P calibre, as the marquetry versions, beating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per minute.
