The Vortic Watch Company is a luxury wrist watch engineering and manufacturing company based in Fort Collins, Colorado. Their inspiration lies in reviving classic watchmaking techniques and traditions. The company’s first product, the “American Artisan Series,” celebrates the rich history of horological manufacturing in the United States by restoring vintage, American-made pocket watch movements, and building them into wristwatches.
This week, Vortic launched a new “Custom Build” web application on www.vorticwatches.com. This unique app allows customers to design their own American Artisan Series watch using the multitude of design options Vortic offers. Opposed to other online design tools, Vortic lists an inventory of one-of-a-kind dials so your watch is not simply made to order, but a truly bespoke piece. As you choose each design option, the watch materializes on the screen, and you can play with different designs, use antique dials from four different original watch manufacturers, and share your final design on social media.
Once you have finished designing the watch of your dreams, you can commission it to be built through an intuitive checkout system. The watchmakers at Vortic then build the watch exactly to your specifications in their Northern Colorado facility. Additionally, multiple “build updates” provide an insight to the creation of your watch along the way and allow you to pick specifically what movement you would like used in your watch.
The first product launched in November of 2014 on Kickstarter (a popular crowd funding website); “The American Artisan Series by Vortic Watches.” The team set a realistic funding goal of $10,000, but to their surprise, the goal was exceeded within 12 hours and the team raised over $40,000 in just 30 days. The founders took this success and turned it into a company.
Since then, Vortic has partnered with several professional watchmakers from around the country, and continued to explore the realm of possibilities within the horological world.
